_Sincerity often needs two hearts, one to root and one to flower, one to smile in time of drought and hold the poisonous wine of pain, the thorns of love and one to stand straight, open his arms and hang like a savior on a cross.
This is beautiful! As a Christian and merely as a person - I can truly appreciate the beauty in these words. It's lovely and poignant and very emotive. I really enjoy this.

The last four lines of this poem hit this Roman Catholic like an uppercut, reminding me of how lucky I am to still have the gift of faith, despite having lived a life far from sanctity.
In fact, I may just send this poem to a grammar school friend who is now an agnostic, despite having led a life on the straight and narrow. Maybe it will jar him a bit at this time of year.
Thanks, Amit, for writing this--and thanks to the editor for running a poem like this in a time when spiritual matters are seldom seen on creative sites.
